Slack

Connect Slack and CuliPulse posts every alert into a channel you choose, as a message with the monitor, the problem, which locations saw it, and buttons to open the incident or the monitor.

  1. Go to Notifications → Add destination → Slack.
  2. Click Add to Slack. Slack opens in a new tab.
  3. Pick the workspace (if you are in several), pick the channel alerts should post to, and approve.
  4. Slack sends you back to CuliPulse. The destination turns to Connected and is named after the channel, for example Slack · #ops-alerts. The page updates on its own.
  5. Send a test alert to check it. See Send a test.
  6. Choose which monitors alert to this destination: all of them, or a specific set.

CuliPulse asks Slack for one permission only: to post messages into the channel you picked. It can’t read your messages or see other channels.

The approval has to be completed within 15 minutes of clicking Add to Slack. While you wait, the row says Link expires in N min and the connect screen Approval expires in N min. If you cancel in Slack, close the tab, take too long, or Slack shows an error, nothing is connected and no alerts are sent:

  • You cancelled, or Slack showed an error. When you come back, CuliPulse shows a notice, Slack didn’t connect. Press Try Slack again, then Add to Slack, and choose a channel when Slack asks.
  • You took too long, or closed the tab. The row turns amber and reads Link expired. Press Connect again on it (on the connect screen: Get a new link), then Add to Slack, and approve CuliPulse in Slack again. You don’t need to remove the old row first.

If it keeps failing, ask a Slack workspace admin whether your workspace limits who can install apps. Contact us if it still doesn’t work.

Open the ⋯ menu on the Slack row and choose Send test alert. A test looks like a real alert, but it is always marked: the header starts with TEST and a line says This is a test, nothing is down. It’s about a made-up monitor (“Example API”), so it’s safe to send to a team channel. There’s a short wait between tests.

On Notifications, open the ⋯ menu on the Slack row:

  • Rename — change the name shown in the console.
  • Alert scope… — choose all monitors or a specific set.
  • Remove — stop sending alerts to this channel.

The switch on the row pauses alerts to this channel without removing it.

The workspace and channel are fixed when you connect. To send alerts to a different channel, remove the destination and connect Slack again, picking the new channel.

CuliPulse posts through a webhook that Slack created for the channel you picked. Alerts stop arriving if:

  • The CuliPulse app was removed from your Slack workspace, or its webhook was turned off.
  • The channel was deleted or archived.

In either case, remove the destination and connect Slack again. Slack only refuses a message when an alert is actually sent, so until then the row says Connected. After a failed alert it turns amber and reads Failing, with a line such as A delivery failed 4 min ago. Send test alert checks it: a delivery that goes through clears the note.
